Even
the most cautious excavator can occasionally cause damage to a buried facility.
In the event a facility is damaged or dislocated during excavation or
demolition, Section 7. of the Illinois
Underground Utility Facilities Damage Prevention Act states the person
responsible for the excavation or demolition shall immediately notify the
affected utility and then contact JULIE, Inc. at 811 or 800-892-0123.
Please be prepared to give the following information to the JULIE operator:
- JULIE Dig Number;
- What general type of facility was damage (pipe, cable, etc.);
- The affected utility, if known; and
- The location of the damaged facility at the excavation site.
When notifying the affected utility, please call Directory Assistance for utility company phone numbers. JULIE agents DO NOT have this information available to them.
