Requirements

Each
JULIE member is required to mark their underground facilities within two
working days of notification from JULIE. Buried utilities should be
marked using paint and/or flags in the
appropriate APWA approved color as stated in Section 10 of the Illinois Underground
Facilities Damage Prevention Act (see illustration).
JULIE staff does not mark any utility facilities.
Mandatory Requirement to Provide
Free Locating
A JULIE Policy Resolution requires all JULIE member
companies and their subcontractors, when they are performing locating and
marking of the approximate location of their underground facilities for
excavation work, to provide this service at no
charge to the excavator. (See JULIE
Policy
Resolution #02-05.)
Common Ground
Alliance
The Common Ground Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated
to shared responsibility in damage prevention and promotion of the damage
prevention Best Practices identified in the Common Ground Study Report.
