Requirements by Law
Each JULIE member is required to mark their underground facilities within two working days of notification from JULIE.  Buried utilities should be marked using paint and/or flags in the appropriate APWA approved color as stated in Section 10 of the  Illinois Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Act (see illustration).  JULIE staff does not mark any utility facilities.

A JULIE Policy Resolution requires all JULIE member companies and their subcontractors, when they are performing locating and marking of the approximate location of their underground facilities for excavation work, to provide this service at no charge to the excavator(See JULIE Policy Resolution #02-05.)
