A Joint Meet Locate Request is a 96-hour process, not 48 hours. This type of request is scheduled when the extent of the work may be confusing or extends over a large geographic area and if may be helpful to distribute maps, plans or schedules. The joint meet also allows the excavator to openly discuss the upcoming project and insure that all JULIE member companies are prepared to locate their underground facilities. The joint meet is not a locating session.
Joint meets should be held at the dig site or a location in close proximity. The responding member companies have 48 hours (two working days) to respond to the joint meet and an additional 48 hours (two working days) to begin to mark their facilities.
Segmenting Your Project
If your excavation project is large in scope, JULIE recommends that you segment
your job into reasonable sections and indicate these section numbers on the maps
that you distribute at the joint meet. This will assist utility locators
as you can indicate what sections to mark at the beginning of your project.
As the job progresses, you can call into JULIE and referring to your dig number,
indicate the next sections to be located. Utility companies should retain
the maps until the project is complete to assist them if sections need to be
refreshed. All member companies must mark before digging can proceed.
Information Required for a Joint Meet
To request a joint meet, the following information must be given in order to
process your request:
- All counties, cities and/or townships where the work will be performed AND
- Street names involved in the project OR the north, south, east and west boundaries of the project OR the section number(s) where the work will be done. This information must be provided by member companies and their subcontractors.
