After
your locate request information is submitted via a JULIE operator,
Web
Remote Ticket Entry or
Fax-A-Locate, it is processed by our computer system. The
geographic information contained in the location request determines which
JULIE member companies have facilities in or near the proposed excavation area, and
the computer then sends a location request message to those companies.
JULIE member companies operate on the premise that if you
give them proper two-working day advance notice (does not include Saturdays,
Sundays or
Holidays) and they have facilities in the area where you intend
to dig, they will respond and mark these facilities within this 48
hour period.
White-lining your project can help expedite
this process.
If a member has no underground utility facilities in the
immediate area of the excavation, they are required to communicate this to
the excavator. Notification of such to the excavator may be provided
in any reasonable manner. Examples are:
 | Face-to-face communication |
 | Phone or phone message |
 | Facsimile |
 | Posting or marking in the excavation area with "OK" or
"NO" (and may include the company's initials).
|
It is the caller's responsibility to provide a phone
number where they can be reached according to Section 4 of the state law.
If you're convinced that a member company, who has not responded, has
facilities where you intend to dig, call JULIE back with your dig number and
another location request will be sent to that member.
