Joint MeetA Joint Meet is scheduled when the extent of the work may be confusing or extends over a large geographic area and it may be helpful to distribute maps, plans or schedules.  The joint meet also allows the excavator to openly discuss the project and insure that all JULIE member companies are prepared to locate their underground facilities.  A joint meet is not a locating session

Joint meets should be held at the dig site or a location in close proximity to the dig site.  A joint meet is not a 48-hour process, but a 96-hour process.  The responding member companies have 48 hours (2 working days) to respond to the joint meet and an additional 48 hours (2 working days) to mark their facilities after the meeting is held.

If your excavation project is large is scope, JULIE recommends that you "segment" your job into reasonable sections and indicate these section numbers on the maps that you distribute at the joint meet.  This will assist utility locators as you can indicate what sections to mark at the beginning of your project.  As your project progresses, you can call into JULIE and referring to your dig number, indicating the next sections to be located.  Utility companies should retain these maps until the job is complete to assist them if sections need to be refreshed.

All member companies must mark before digging can proceed.  According to JULIE policy, JULIE operators cannot be instructed to include, "a request that member companies be prepared to locate at the time of the meet" in the remarks section of the ticket inquiry.  Excavators may request that utility locators pick up maps or drawings of the work site in lieu of a joint meet.  Please realize that even though a joint meet is not held, this type of request will still be treated as a joint meet and requires 96 hours to complete.

Many joint meets involve large geographic areas, which could include several geographic sections/quarter sections, multiple villages/cities and townships, and in some cases more than one county.  It is imperative that the following information be provided:
